A trio of cards by Yvonne Yam

Hello there! This is Yvonne Yam, here to share with you my projects using Blue Fern Studios chipboard as well as the yummy papers from 7 Dots Studio. :)

This month I wanted to challenge myself to use the same supplies to create 3 different cards. I started with a mask and 2 mist colours to create my first background. After that, I pressed my card base on the residual mists left on the mask to create the second background. And then I used another card base to get the last mist impression.

Card 1: I added some lace to the card base along with a torn strip of 9th Wave patterned paper.

I misted the Tuscan window chipboard then adhered some lace on the top and some glass bead gel on the rest of the frame. I misted the paper bloom, then added some PearlEx for sheen.

This is the Tuscan Window chipboard I used.

Card 2: I added some lace to the base and "framed" the 9th Wave diecut.

The frame chipboard was covered with glass bead gel and painted with mist.

I used the frame from the Second Hand Furnishings set.

Card 3: Some torn 9th Wave patterned paper and lace for the base and a "framed" diecut.

The mirror was misted, then layered with lace. The bottle was covered with 9th Wave patterned paper and lace.

I used the mirror and bottle from the Vanity Set.

Hope I've inspired you to use your Blue Fern Studios chipboard. :)

August Sketch Challenge WINNERS!

We once again had some AMAZING entries for our sketch challenge in August and that NEVER makes it easy on us when it comes to choosing a TOP 3! But we got it narrowed down and are ready to reveal our lucky winners!

First things first- we did have a couple of entries that had to be disqualified due to the fact that there was not any chipboard used on those projects. We appreciate SO much the time and energy our contributers put into their entries- but we have just a couple of basic rules to adhere by, and one of them is that you must use at least one piece of BFS chipboard on your submission. :)

So- our randomly drawn winner of this month's chipboard prize pack goes to............

...bestia cat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATS to you! Please send me your mailing information to erin@bluefernstudios.com within 7 days to claim your prize!

NOW on to our Top 3!! As mentioned, we had some just gorgeous entries this month~ take a look at who snagged our Top 3 Features:

#1
frezja
This art journal cover is just astounding! The layers, colors, and textures make it a true piece of art- and a beautiful example of how our sketch can be used on non-layout projects as well. Our Garden Daisies put that perfect final touch on this piece. Thank-you so much for your gorgeous entry!

#2
Tiffany Solorio
Tiffany's layout is simply beautiful with a photograph that just draws you in and sparks intrigue. The soft color palette and the simple gesso-touched Blooming Flourish creates a relaxing, comfortable scene. Well done, Tiffany!

#3
Maja Stokk
Maja's entry is full of color, texture, and beauty! We love her artistic take on the sketch along with her sweet photo and title! And piecing apart the Damask Flourish piece to stretch her product is always such a great idea. Thank-you for sharing your work with us, Maja!

Once again, thank-you for playing along with us in August!

Our September challenge is currently running, so if you haven't yet- take a look! We would love to see what you create with it!

Blue Fern Studios + 7 Dots Studio = Love

Hi Blue Fern Studio Fans!! It's Lisa here, with a new set of layouts for your viewing pleasure. I hope to inspire you this week with my work.  What a delightful surprise when we found out that we were doing an awesome swap with 7 Dots Studio. It was like a match made in heaven!! But then again, Blue Fern Studios chip board will go with any paper or medium!! This first layout was done with the 7 Dots Studios collection Messy Head. I simply adore the wood grained pattern paper. I topped it with the print pattern paper and edge punched it. The paper and Twiggy Branch inspired me to use this photo of Flamingo's I took at Sunken Gardens a few years ago. They truly are "delightful" creatures.

I decided to leave the branch in a more natural color considering the wood grained paper went with it so well. I did rub a little Rock candy Stickles on it to give it a little sparkle. Then I just added some tiny flowers that I die cut.

I love the word sets. I base coated the word and after it was dry, I dabbed on 2 different color glazes.

I used a white acrylic gesso to coat the Doily Bunting and the butterflies, and while the paint was thick and still wet, I sprinkled some Micro Beads in 2 different colors onto it and pressed them into the wet  paint.

A detailed look of the microbead/gesso technique.

Twiggy Branch

Doily Bunting
The Optimist Word set

                                                                   Brigitte Butterfly Set

For this next layout I used Messy Head once again. I cant tell you how beautiful the 7 Dots paper is!!

On the flourish I used some crackle paint. Whe the paint was dry and crackled, I rubbed some soft chalk ink over it so that it seeped into the cracks. Then I just dry rubbed the ink off of the paint leaving it on very lightly in some spots. .

I did the same treatment to the Circle Motifs. Then I added a bit of pink ink and rubbed it lightly over the whole surface.

I took one of the circle Morifs and cut it in half. I positioned the pieces on the edges of the layout. They look like 2 different pieces. I only used 1 piece, and there are 3 pieces in the set.

                                                                   Blooming Flourish

                                                                        Circle Motifs

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and check out my creations this week. I surely had a wonderful time with my Blue Fern Studios chip board pairing it with 7 Dots Studios. Be sure to check back here on the Blue Fern Studios Blog often as the designers share their work and techniques. You are sure to be inspired.
